Three tourists died in Da Nang due to poisoning leading to heart failure
From test results, forensic agencies said that three people died in Da Nang due to poisoning that affected cells and the cardiovascular system.
On December 4, Mr. Mai Xuan Ngoc - Director of the Da Nang Forensic Center - said that he had received test results related to the three people who died in September from the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Accordingly, the Expert Council of the Institute of Forensic Medicine consulted and leaned towards the conclusion that the victims were poisoned by substances that affected cells and the cardiovascular system, leading to respiratory failure, cardiovascular collapse and death.

According to Mr. Ngoc, scientific tests and initial consultations are still not enough to draw a final conclusion, because the specific poison and route of entry that led to the victims' deaths have not been determined.
"This is the first time in 20 years in the industry that I have encountered a case of victims dying with a poisoning mechanism like this," said Mr. Ngoc, adding that this could be the first death in Vietnam that has not yet found the cause after more than two months.
Mr. Ngoc confirmed that the sampling for testing was done early. Many samples such as urine, gastric juice, blood, and vomit were collected while the victim was still alive.
In addition, many additional samples were taken from the hotel, including water, air, shampoo, kettle, candy wrappers, etc.
"The Institute of Forensic Medicine has also worked fairly but it is too difficult to draw conclusions," he said, adding that in the coming time, the authorities will conduct three more stages of appraisal to draw conclusions, including experiments on animals, the hotel's air conditioning system, and re-examining the health of the surviving victims.
At 8:00 a.m. on September 16, Danang Hospital received three people for emergency treatment. The four-year-old boy was confirmed dead. The 27-year-old mother showed signs of fatigue, dizziness, cyanosis, and low blood pressure. Resuscitation was ineffective due to poor health, so the victim later died.
The victim's husband, Mr. Do Ngoc Van (29 years old, from Nghe An) initially showed mild symptoms, but the disease progressed very quickly, indicating that the patient had acute poisoning. Hoan My Hospital immediately transferred the patient to Da Nang General Hospital for treatment.
On September 24, Mr. Van was discharged from the hospital. He said that when he checked into the hotel on Ho Nghinh Street, many rooms were sealed with notices of insect spraying. In addition to Mr. Do Ngoc Van’s wife and children, there was also a family from Hanoi and two people from Da Nang who were in the accident. Among them, a three-year-old boy died.
Da Nang police also collected many samples and sent them to the Institute of Criminal Science in Hanoi for examination. Before the victims arrived and suffered the accident, the hotel hired a company to spray insecticide in the rooms. The samples were also sent by the police for testing. The agency said that when there is a specific cause, a press conference will be held to announce it.
