Under the agreement, which runs until the end of 2022, Poland can receive up to 10 million cubic meters of gas per year from Russia. However, the Warsaw authorities decided not to extend the agreement. On April 27, Gazprom suspended gas exports to Bulgaria's Bulgargaz and Poland's PGNiG because they refused to pay for gas in rubles as Moscow demanded.
"On May 13, the government of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki adopted a resolution to annul the agreement between the Polish Government and the Russian Federation. The agreement, called Yamal, was signed in 1993. After 30 years, it can be said that gas relations between Poland and Russia no longer exist," Naimsky said.
On March 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the transfer of payments for natural gas supplies to EU countries and other countries that have imposed restrictions on Russia to rubles to stop using dollars and euros. He then signed a corresponding decree and said that if “unfriendly” countries do not pay in rubles from April 1, Russia will consider this a violation of obligations under gas contracts.
