Poland's PGNiG and the US' Venture Global LNG have signed a long-term contract for the supply of 2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually for 20 years, the Polish company's head Maciej Vojniak said.

Two million tons is equivalent to about 25 LNG tankers per year, and after recycling will be 2.7 billion cubic meters of green fuel.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed. In September, US President Donald Trump promised to provide Warsaw with “massive amounts of liquefied natural gas at great prices.”

Recently, the country's former Defense Minister, Antoni Macacherevich, said that Russia and Germany are "tightening the rope" around Poland's neck, by making Warsaw and the whole of Europe dependent. The politician also called the United States Poland's only and key ally.

However, Moscow remains the main gas supplier to Warsaw. Over the past six months, Poland's gas imports from Russia have increased by 0.4 billion cubic meters.
