(Baonghean.vn) - Peoplein hamlet 6, Quynh Hoa commune (Quynh Luu) called bDao Thi Khuong (born in 1950) is blind Mrs. Khuong..No husband, no children, and blind, she lives alone.in the old house, the walls are cracked in patches.
Only after a policy officer led us inside to introduce us did we realize that this old, dilapidated house had an owner. It was called a house, but the walls were cracked, the roof was so crooked that it looked like a strong wind could collapse. Inside the house, everything was simple, poor, and moldy because it seemed to be rarely used. The owner of the house was Mrs. Khuong, who was blind.

Mrs. Khuong wishes for a solid house to live in in her old age. |
In 1971, Mrs. Khuong joined the youth volunteer force and met the man who loved her during those years. Due to poverty, they got married. She gave birth to her first son at the age of 22. When her son was 5 years old and had a fever, she thought it was just a cold, so she and her husband gave him herbs from the garden instead of going to the hospital.
Because the family was too poor, ignorant, and subjective, the baby was sick for months and then died. Regretting and mourning her child, she fell seriously ill… From then on, she could not give birth to any more children, and her eyes gradually went blind.
In 1994, her husband got nasopharyngeal cancer. For nearly two years, she and her husband sought treatment and borrowed money from everywhere, but her husband still did not survive. Left alone, she groped her way through the thatched roof and earthen wall house. Her brothers and relatives pitied her, so they pooled together to buy some cement and built her a small house on the ancestral land with the Nguyen family temple for her to look after.

Mrs. Khuong has been lonely and alone since her child died, and her husband also left her forever. |
Mrs. Khuong's life was a series of sad and lonely days. She had no husband, no children, and was so poor that she didn't even have a bed, so she had to sleep on the floor with a mat. Her husband's nephew took pity on her and bought her a bed. The small house that had sheltered her from the rain and sun for over 20 years was now dilapidated and would be very dangerous during storms. Knowing that she didn't have much time left on this earth, Mrs. Khuong only wished for a roof over her head and a safe house to live in.
No longer able to work and blind, she asked her nephew to help her with the 3 acres of rice fields so she could have rice to eat. She received a disability benefit and an elderly benefit of 540,000 VND per month.
Feeling sorry for the blind woman, Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, who lives in the same neighborhood and is her husband's cousin, invited her to live with him, but she refused because in that dilapidated house there was still an altar to worship her husband and children. Mr. Ha told his children to cook rice and bring it to her, or sometimes to help her cook rice. On rainy days, Mr. Ha asked his children to take her to his house to sleep, fearing that the house might collapse and she would be blind, which would be very dangerous. Recently, Mr. Ha helped her get eye surgery, so she can see somewhat in her right eye, although not very clearly.

Mrs. Khuong's dilapidated, rickety house is currently in hamlet 6, Quynh Hoa commune. |
Ms. Vo Thi Hau - policy officer of Quynh Hoa commune said that in the commune, there are still many poor households in need of housing, but even if there is support money from the program, Mrs. Khuong still does not have money to build a house, that is the reason why Mrs. Khuong still does not have a new house. We hope that there will be kind-hearted people to join hands and help her to have a small, sturdy house to take shelter from the rainy days, so that she does not have to bother her grandchildren to take her to "evacuate" anymore.
