Three 'Suns' shine at the same time in the sky

An image of three Suns appearing at the same time was captured in St. Petersburg, Russia, as a result of a rare natural phenomenon.

Residents in St. Petersburg, Russia have just witnessed a rare natural phenomenon, which looks like three Suns appearing in the sky at the same time, Sun reported.

According to Maria Borukha, who works at the St. Petersburg observatory, the phenomenon of a pair of bright spots appearing symmetrically on both sides of the Sun is called a "sun dog". It can be observed in many places around the world in all seasons but rarely shines as brightly as in St. Petersburg.

"Sundogs appear when light hits ice crystals in cirrus clouds at an altitude of 5-10 km above the ground," explained Nikolay Zheleznoc, a researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
