Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of “betraying Ukraine” because she shook hands and smiled with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A TV presenter working in Kiev does not like the fact that senior European leaders communicate with their Russian counterparts. Gordon believes that any social greetings by politicians are generally impolite.
Gordon said he felt uncomfortable when he saw "Mrs. Merkel holding Putin's hand". The Ukrainian TV host said that the German Chancellor's smile with the Russian President was also "unacceptable", because such an action was "betrayal of Ukraine".
