Mrs. Merkel has a big advantage in the race to be re-elected as German Chancellor.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to win the German federal election next September by all German pollsters.
In exactly 2 months, on September 24, 2017, the important federal election in Germany will take place and German Chancellor Angela Merkel is on a favorable path to be re-elected for a 4th term (after 2005, 2009 and 2013).
That is the general opinion of German political observers and also the result of the latest public opinion poll just announced by German national television channel ZDF on July 24.

Accordingly, the German Chancellor currently receives the support of 59% of German voters, nearly double that of her main opponent, candidate Martin Schulz of the German Social Democratic Party - SPD. Mr. Schulz is expected to receive 30% of German voters' votes.
If the federal election were held right now, Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) would also be expected to win big in the German Federal Parliament with about 38% of the vote compared to 25% for the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
Explaining the current strong position of Angela Merkel personally as well as the CDU-CSU alliance, German political analysts say that an important reason is that the main rival of the Christian Democratic Party CDU, the Social Democratic Party SPD, has lost a large number of traditional voters in recent times to the CDU itself.
According to research by the DIW Institute, the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin, the average age of voters supporting the CDU and SPD parties is around 53 years old and over the past 15 years, the characteristics of the voters of the two parties have become increasingly similar.
This caused more voters from the Social Democratic Party SPD to support the Christian Democratic Union Party CDU, combined with factors such as the aging German population and profound changes in the German labor market, causing the SPD to lose its role as the largest representative party for the working class, thereby also losing its leading position in German politics.
Meanwhile, after three terms as German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) have built a solid reputation thanks to their impressive economic performance. This is evidenced by the fact that in a ZDF poll, nearly three-quarters of respondents said that the current German economic situation is good, or even very good.
Taking advantage of this optimistic sentiment of German voters, in early July, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced a 76-page action program, in which she set an ambitious goal that by 2025, the unemployment rate in Germany will fall below 3%, meaning that almost all German citizens of working age will find a job./.
