Three fishermen injured and killed due to broken fishing winch at sea

On August 12, a representative of the leader of Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district, said that a fisherman had just died at sea due to a broken winch falling on his head. A fishing boat was currently on its way to bring the fisherman's body to Lach Quen port.

According to initial information, in the early morning of August 12, fishing boat NA 92828 TS, captained by Tran Van Tai (residing in Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district), along with many other crew members, was fishing at sea.

After going out to catch seafood, while using a winch to pull a small boat onto a large boat, the winch suddenly broke, the boat fell on a person and the winch hit the head and some parts of the body of fisherman Nguyen Van Thang (born in 1993), residing in hamlet 7, Quynh Thuan commune.

Mr. Thang was given first aid and brought to shore, but his injuries were so severe that he died on the way to the mainland. The incident also injured two other fishermen on the boat.

It is expected that at around 8:00 p.m. on August 12, fishing boat NA 92828 carrying the victim will dock.

Currently, the family, relatives and neighbors are taking care of the victim's funeral. It is known that Mr. Thang is the main breadwinner of the family, working as a seafarer. His wife does not have a stable job, the family has 2 small children, the oldest is 3 years old and the other is only 7 months old, the situation is extremely difficult.

It is known that the owner of fishing boat NA 92828 TS is Mr. Nguyen Van Tuong, residing in Son Hai commune. He hired some fishermen from Quynh Long and Quynh Thuan communes as crew members to go fishing at sea and the boat set sail from August 8, 2020.
