Press attaché Nguyen Ngoc Chi stated that the three Vietnamese employees included: Ms. Mai Thi Phuong Thy, residing at 334/4 Le Quang Dinh Street, Ward 11, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Truong Dinh Duy, residing at 3/5/7 Thanh Thai Street, Ward 14, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City; and Mr. Danh Oanh Di, residing at 322 Ap Nga Con, Long Thanh, Giong Rieng, Kien Giang.
These three men, who worked as room service and table service staff on the ship, were fortunate to survive by jumping off the vessel and receiving help from local residents. However, like many other passengers, they lost all their belongings and documents.
The First Secretary of the Embassy, Mr. Dinh Van Thanh, who accompanied Ambassador Dang Khanh Thoai on a visit to Vietnamese citizens at the Hilton hotel near the airport in Rome, said all three were in good health.
The embassy has provided them with essential supplies and will continue to assist with the procedures to help them return home as quickly as possible.
The embassy also contacted the Costa Concordia travel company to protect the rights of Vietnamese citizens. According to Mr. Thanh, in addition to the advance payment, the Italian company also promised to buy repatriation tickets, provide compensation, and pay the remaining wages as per the contract for the Vietnamese citizens.
Thy's employment contract has only a few days left, while Duy and Di's contracts have about four months remaining.
Reportedly, the three Vietnamese workers were supplied by Saigon Tourist and First Alliances, service companies in Ho Chi Minh City. The embassy stated that it has not received any contact from these two companies.
