Grandmother murdered 20-day-old baby girl, disposed of body

Listening to the fortune teller, Mrs. Pham Thi Xuan murdered her granddaughter, put her in a sack to dispose of the body, and then spread the news that the girl had been kidnapped.

On the evening of November 28, Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Huu Thanh, Chief of Police of Bim Son town (Thanh Hoa), said that the suspect in the murder of the 20-day-old baby girl was Mrs. Pham Thi Xuan (66 years old, from Thai Binh), the victim's grandmother.

"It was not a kidnapping as initially reported. Evidence and testimony show that Ms. Xuan made up the story herself," said Lieutenant Colonel Thanh.

Initially, Ms. Xuan stated that the reason she killed her granddaughter was because she listened to a fortune teller. Once, when she went to see a fortune teller, the fortune teller said that “the girl was the family’s karma,” so she waited for an opportunity to act.

On the evening of November 25, Ms. Xuan used her hands to kill her grandson, then stuffed him under the bed. Ms. Xuan then went to sleep outside, fabricating a story about a man and a woman breaking into the house, holding a knife to her mouth, threatening to rob her grandson.

That same evening, Mrs. Xuan hid her grandson under the bed. She waited until dawn to secretly put the body in a sack and dump it in a trash can about 300 meters from her house.

The bag was then transported by an environmental company garbage truck to a dump site in Dong Son Ward, about 10 km from the house. Around noon the next day, the child's body was accidentally discovered by Ms. Duong Thi Thom, a garbage collector.

The incident happened in Bac Son ward, Bim Son town. 20-day-old baby Le Minh Anh is the child of Mr. Le Huu Thuan (37 years old) and Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huyen (38 years old).

The family reported that at around 6:45 p.m. on November 25, Ms. Xuan was holding her baby girl in the house when two masked men on a motorbike rushed in and restrained her. The man threatened her with a knife, while the woman grabbed Ms. Xuan’s hair and covered her mouth. They then grabbed the baby girl and left the scene.

Nearly two days later, the baby’s body was discovered at a landfill in the center of Bim Son town. The baby’s body was contained in a sack with the father’s name and contact phone number written on the outside.

Minh Anh's body was brought back to her hometown in Thai Binh province for burial.

Ms. Xuan was arrested by the police to serve the investigation.
