"I will never regret not voting for Hillary Clinton. I am an independent and I would not vote for her even if I had a gun to my head," Gina Lopez tweeted on September 28 after Mrs. Obama's comment.

A day earlier, former US First Lady Michelle Obama caused controversy at a conference in Boston when she said that female voters who supported the Republican candidate in 2016 chose who they were told to choose.

In November 2016, the US election recorded about 42% of female voters deciding to vote for Donald Trump as president. Although he lost the popular vote to his former rival Hillary Clinton, Trump won the overall election thanks to having more electoral votes than his opponent.

"This was not a wise decision by Michelle Obama... Never hit the voters, nothing good can come from it," wrote Amanda James.

However, in her speech discussing the choice of American voters, Mrs. Obama also said she wanted Mr. Trump to succeed as president. "He is our commander in chief, he was elected," Mrs. Obama said.

According to an ABC/Washington Post poll released on July 16, Mr. Trump is the US President with the lowest approval rating in the first 6 months of his term in the past 70 years. Mr. Trump later affirmed that this number is not bad, while accusing this of being the most inaccurate survey./.
