Three Vietnamese films to participate in Cannes Film Festival 2017

The film The Third Wife (photo) by young director Nguyen Phuong Anh and producer Tran Bich Ngoc has been selected to be screened at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival taking place from May 17-28.

"The Third Wife" is a story about the struggles of a young girl in an arranged marriage with a much older husband in rural Vietnam at the end of the 19th century, starring People's Artist Nhu Quynh, Tran Nu Yen Khe...

Also attending the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, Vietnamese cinema has two more film projects, Culi never cries and Taste, which were selected to participate in the Cinefondation's Atelier category, where the jury will select outstanding art film projects from many regions around the world to support financially and in the production process.

"Coolies Never Cry" is the debut feature film by director Pham Ngoc Lan (31 years old), telling the story of a Vietnamese wife who travels to Europe to bring back the body of her husband, a zoo security guard. The zoo has gone bankrupt, with only one coolie left.

"Vị" is the first feature film project of young director Le Bao (27 years old). This project was awarded the Most Promising Project in the Southeast Asian Film Lab category at the Singapore International Film Festival. The film revolves around an unemployed Nigerian soccer player trying to make a living in Ho Chi Minh City.
