Three mega transportation projects will begin operation next week.
Vietnam's most modern airport terminal, the largest cable-stayed bridge, and the Noi Bai - Nhat Tan expressway (Vo Nguyen Giap road) are three multi-billion dollar mega-projects that will be operational from January 4, 2015.
The T2 passenger terminal construction project commenced in December 2011, with a total investment of nearly US$1 billion and a floor area of 139,216 m2 comprising four floors. Once operational, the T2 passenger terminal will alleviate the overcrowding issues experienced at the T1 terminal. This terminal features a system of X-ray machines, baggage conveyors, security cameras, air conditioning, public address systems, and fire safety equipment imported from advanced countries. Notably, it utilizes a fuel dispensing system via refueling nozzles, a first in Vietnam. |

Terminal T2 will accommodate 30,000 passengers with 230 takeoffs and landings per day; its capacity will be 10 million passengers per year (from 2015 to 2020) and 15 million passengers per year (from 2020 to 2030). |

The Nhat Tan Bridge project and its approach roads have a total investment of 89.943 billion Japanese Yen, equivalent to 13.626 billion VND. The total length of the project is 8,930 m, including a cable-stayed bridge section 3,755 m long and 33.2 m wide; and approach roads 5,170 m long. |

Nhat Tan Bridge is one of the very few continuous multi-span cable-stayed bridges in the world. Besides the multi-span cable-stayed bridge construction technology, the main bridge section also applies many advanced technologies, some of which are being used for the first time in Vietnam, such as steel anchor box technology on the tower piers, a monitoring system with many modern devices such as cable tension measurement, reinforcement stress measurement, steel beam measurement… and especially the steel pipe pile cofferdam foundation (SPSP). |

To commemorate the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Japan, the bridge will have two names: "Nhat Tan" and "Vietnam-Japan Friendship Bridge". Trucks will not be allowed on Vietnam's largest cable-stayed bridge. Trucks and container vehicles will use the Thang Long Bridge. Cars, buses, and coaches will use the six designated lanes. Motorcycles will use the two service lanes and are not permitted on the main bridge. |

The project to build a road connecting Noi Bai International Airport to Nhat Tan Bridge (Vo Nguyen Giap Road) aims to connect the capital's center with Noi Bai Airport, reducing traffic congestion on the Bac Thang Long - Noi Bai route. |

The project is over 12 km long, with a total investment of 6,742 billion VND. The main road is designed for a speed of 80 km/h, while the service roads are designed for 40 km/h. |
| Currently, the main construction items of the project have been completed, but the consultant and contractor will inspect and review to complete some items outside the main route such as sidewalks, restore the local irrigation and transportation system, reinforce slopes, and open the entire route to traffic in early 2015. |
On January 4, 2015, the Ministry of Transport will inaugurate and put into operation the following projects: Terminal 2 of Noi Bai International Airport; Nhat Tan Bridge and its approach roads; and the road connecting Noi Bai Airport to Nhat Tan Bridge. These are key national projects, funded by ODA loans from the Japanese government and counterpart funds from the Vietnamese government. These projects are of particular importance to the socio-economic development of the entire country in general and Hanoi in particular.
