Theresa May has cut short her summer holiday to focus on Brexit. Last night (August 14), she issued a stern warning to any government member who wanted to delay Britain's departure from the EU until the end of 2019 or later.

Theresa May cut short her summer vacation after receiving reports that some government ministers had told London finance chiefs that Brexit could take until the end of 2019 - nearly a year later than currently expected, according to a source close to the Prime Minister's Office.

Theresa May has expressed frustration with a recent row between Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary Liam Fox over who should have the final say on British foreign policy, saying they should focus on getting Britain out of the EU.

The British government has set up two bodies to coordinate the discussions between the UK and the EU – the “Brexit Department” headed by David Davis and the Foreign Trade Department headed by Liam Fox. However, these two bodies have yet to take steps to keep up with the Brexit timetable that Mrs May wants.

Theresa May has pledged to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty in early 2017, allowing Britain to leave the EU in January 2019. The British government is urgently preparing for this.

“The fact that meetings are taking place continuously, even though it is the summer holidays, is a testament to this. British government officials usually meet at 7:30 am every day to discuss Brexit,” a source from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
