According to the assessment results, the three top candidates in the country in Ha Giang all had their scores reduced from 8 to more than 20 points.

On July 17, as soon as the Ministry of Education and Training completed the assessment of all multiple-choice tests in Ha Giang, the test scores of candidates in the entire province were updated, replacing the results announced on July 11.Many candidates had their scores significantly reduced, especially the 3 candidates in the top 11 with the highest total scores in all subjects in the country.

Specifically, candidate number 05000233 had an exam score announced on July 11 of 9.8 Math; 8.5 Literature and 9.8 English (28.1 points for block D). Today, except for Literature, all other subjects have decreased significantly. His Math score is only 5.6; English is 6.4, total score for block D is 20.5. The other subjects of History, Geography, and Social Sciences of this candidate are all below average, only achieving 2 to 4 points.

The exam scores of one of the three highest scoring candidates in the country dropped.

Many other candidates in the top 100 with the highest scores in Ha Giang also had their assessment results much lower than the previously announced scores. Specifically, candidate number 05001885 ranked third in Ha Giang province with scores in Math, Physics, and English of 9.6; 9.75 and 9.2 respectively. Now, the results have dropped to 2.6; Physics 3; English 2.6. Thus, this candidate's score has been raised by more than 20 points.

Previously, the national high school exam results of the candidate with registration number 05001885and 56 other students in Ha Giang caused suspicion when they scored 9 points or more in Math, the lowest in Physics was 8.5, but Chemistry only scored 2-3 points. In the list of 16 candidates in Ha Giang province with A1 block scores of 28 or more (accounting for nearly 1/3 of the country), many students scored poorly in Chemistry - a subject in the Natural Science group.

At a press conference announcing the results of the verification of the unusually high test scores of many candidates in Ha Giang, Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) Mai Van Trinh said that there were a total of 114 candidates with more than 330 test scores that had their scores increased. Some students had their total test scores increased by up to 29.95 compared to the actual score.

Based on the regulations of the national high school exam, the Ministry's Assessment Council decided that the assessment results will be used to replace all the multiple-choice test results announced by the Department of Education's Examination Council on July 11. These test scores will be used to consider high school graduation and university, college, and intermediate school admissions in 2018.

"Whether to cancel the exams of candidates whose scores were raised will be further considered after receiving full investigation conclusions from the police," said Director Mai Van Trinh.

On July 11, the Ministry of Education announced the national high school exam scores. The results of the mountainous province of Ha Giang were unusually high. Of the 11 candidates with the highest scores in all subjects in the country, Ha Giang had 3.

In Physics alone, Ha Giang had 65 scores of 9 or higher, accounting for 6.7% of the total number of candidates taking the exam, many times higher than localities with a tradition of good learning such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nam Dinh.

In block A1 (Math, Physics, English), the whole country has 76 candidates with scores above 27, of which Ha Giang has 36. Block A (Math, Physics, Chemistry), the whole country has 82 scores above 27, of which Ha Giang accounts for nearly 1/3.
