The 64-year-old patient's health has worsened, with 3 cardiac arrests. Experts are considering re-prescribing ECMO intervention.

The patient began to deteriorate on the night of April 7. Intensive care, emergency, respiratory specialists... immediately consulted on the patient's treatment, and his condition stabilized. As of the morning of April 9, the patient was still on a ventilator. Doctors are considering the possibility of re-intervention with ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).

The patient had severe respiratory failure and was put on ECMO from March 19 to April 4. Her health improved and she was switched to a ventilator. She had an underlying vestibular disorder.

There are currently 5 patients on ventilators. "Patient 91", a British pilot, is on dialysis and ECMO and is being treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Mr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, said that the patients are being treated according to the Ministry of Health's treatment regimen. Experts are also researching and learning new regimens from countries such as Cuba, Japan, and France, and applying them to treatment trials.

The Ministry of Health is implementing a number of other treatment measures. The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, together with the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the system of specialized Hematology hospitals, are collecting blood and separating plasma from recovered patients for research and use on seriously ill patients, according to the protocol recommended by the World Health Organization.

According to Mr. Khue, currently, leading infectious disease hospitals are assigned to treat nCoV patients. Many patients have very serious underlying diseases and require specialized expertise. Therefore, after treatment, patients with negative results can be transferred to facilities with conditions for emergency resuscitation and specialized treatment, which will be better.

"We are establishing a network of hospitals with excellent leading specialists and experienced doctors to treat severe Covid-19 patients, as well as patients with underlying diseases, after completing the treatment phase at the Tropical Diseases Hospital," said Mr. Khue.

As of this morning, Vietnam has recorded 251 nCoV patients, of which 125 are being treated. Severe patients are being treated at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Branch 2, and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City. The remaining patients are mostly in stable condition, at provincial level, specialized tuberculosis hospitals, and district hospitals.

"The good news is that the number of patients hospitalized due to testing positive is less than the number of recoveries. The rate of cured patients is more than 50%," said Mr. Khue.
