(Baonghean.vn) - Not only did he call on all people to exercise, Uncle Ho was also a shining example of the spirit of self-consciously exercising in a positive and creative way to serve the Fatherland and the people.

During his lifetime, Uncle Ho once said: “Every weak citizen means the whole country is weak, every healthy citizen means the whole country is healthy. Exercising and improving health is the duty of every patriotic citizen.”

Since his years living in France, Uncle Ho was conscious of taking care of his health to carry out long-term revolutionary activities. In the cold winter, before going to work, he took two bricks and put them in the stove of the hotel where he was staying. In the afternoon, he took the bricks out and wrapped them in old newspapers to make a mattress to keep warm.

During his time in Russia, in the cold winter, Uncle Ho still regularly woke up early to do hand exercises, combined with weights and elastic bands... In Yunnan (China), in cramped living quarters where people had to work secretly in many locations, Uncle Ho still exercised and moved regularly combined with cleaning the house and garden.

Uncle Ho returned to Vietnam from China on February 8, 1941 and stayed in the mountainous area of Cao Bang. Sometimes in Pac Po cave, sometimes in Khuoi Nam hut, sometimes in the mountainous area of Lam Son guerrilla base, wherever he was, he maintained a regular routine of eating, living, working, and studying.

Uncle Ho had a habit of avoiding overeating, exercising in the morning, not taking a nap, and in the afternoon he went to the garden, carrying firewood for the people in the village... Revolutionary elders also recounted that during the preparation period for the 18th Central Party Conference in 1941, every morning, Uncle Ho went to the huts to call everyone to wake up to exercise by the Khuoi Nam River, then spent a while farming and bathing in the stream before starting to research and write documents.

While in Liuzhou (China), Uncle Ho still exercised regularly. Many days he practiced Tai Chi and jogged 4-5 km, then went to the river to bathe even though it was very cold. Thanks to such regular exercise, Uncle Ho survived the dangerous illness before the August Revolution in 1945. When he returned to Hanoi during the period of 1945 - 1946, despite his busy work schedule, Uncle Ho still kept the habit of waking up early to exercise.

Realizing the importance and practicality of physical education and sports, in his position as President of the Provisional Government of an independent Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 14 on January 30, 1946 to establish the Central Department of Physical Education within the Ministry of Youth. He clearly understood that physical education was very necessary to improve national health and improve the Vietnamese race.

At the end of March 1946, Uncle Ho personally wrote a call for all people to exercise. This call was first published in the newspaper Cuu Quoc on March 27, 1946. That was the origin of the "healthy for the country" movement launched by the Central Sports Department throughout our country in 1946.

In his appeal, Uncle Ho advised us: “Every day when you wake up, do some physical exercise. Exercise every day, your blood will circulate, your spirit will be full, that is health… I myself exercise every day”. Uncle Ho himself is a shining example of physical exercise for each of us to follow. He often trained with cadres and soldiers by running, walking, swimming, climbing mountains, playing volleyball…

Bác không chỉ thường xuyên luyện võ, chơi bóng chuyền mà còn chăm chỉ tập bơi.
He not only regularly practices martial arts and plays volleyball but also diligently practices swimming.

Many times, he went to training locations at Nha Dao Xao (currently the Friendship Cultural Palace), Opera House Square, SEPPO Stadium (currently Hang Day Stadium)... early in the morning to encourage the general sports-military training classes. On March 8, 1946, he kicked the honor ball, opening the match between the Hoang Dieu National Salvation Youth Team and the National Defense Team.

During the period 1954-1975, Uncle Ho spent a lot of time paying attention to sports: watching the friendly football match between Hanoi and Khmer teams at Hang Day Stadium (June 1957), attending the inauguration ceremony of Hang Day Stadium and the football match between Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Hanoi (August 24, 1958), attending the 1st Northern Youth Swimming Congress (1958, Ba Dinh swimming pool), attending the closing ceremony of the 1st Capital Sports Festival (1961), receiving foreign sports delegations...

Even though he was a leader and head of state, Uncle Ho also diligently and diligently trained his body like ordinary people. It was these actions that made Uncle Ho much closer and simpler to us.

On December 19, 1966, when receiving the Vietnamese athletes returning from the Asian GANEFO (including famous athletes Tran Oanh - shooting, Tran Huu Chi - athletics, Vu Thi Sen - swimming...), Uncle Ho advised: "Fighting the American invaders is so arduous and difficult, but our army and people are determined to win. You must be determined to achieve even higher results. To do so, you must unite, help each other in training and competition, and try your best to be worthy athletes of a heroic nation."

President Ho Chi Minh's attention has created a Vietnamese sport that is modern, scientific, advanced and rich in national identity. At the same time, that achievement has created the position of Vietnamese sports in the region and in the world.

In particular, not only did he call on the whole population to exercise, Uncle Ho was also a shining example of the spirit of self-consciously exercising in a positive and creative way to serve the Fatherland and the people. Uncle Ho's physical exercise and sports are always the most exemplary example for us today and future generations to follow.
