How is the national high school exam graded?
The exam board has started working to announce the results of the national high school exam on July 11.
On the afternoon of June 27, right after the end of the three-day national high school exam, the examination boards began to make the exam papers. Except for the essay-based Literature exam, the remaining subjects were multiple-choice and graded by machine.
The Literature exam is graded in two independent rounds and checked.
The Literature exam must be marked and the answer sheets must be cut before being handed over to the marking team. The number of answer sheets must be kept absolutely confidential. At the meeting to conclude the 2018 National High School Exam, Mr. Mai Van Trinh, Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) said that there are two methods of marking: marking one round or two independent rounds.
"The Chairman of the Examination Council will decide, but in any case, it must ensure that the officials who cheat are completely isolated, just like when printing and copying the exam papers," said Mr. Trinh.speak.

After the exam, the Board of Examiners will get to work. Mr. Trinh informed that the essay exam must be marked in two separate rounds, each round in a separate room.
Before assigning the two rounds of grading to the two examiners to agree on the score, it is necessary to compare the scores on the two examiners' score sheets. If a difference of 0.5 points or more is detected, the head examiner must request monitoring, determine the cause and the unified handling results of the two examiners to prevent errors and violations of examination regulations.

Examiners are not allowed to correct scores on the marking sheet, scorecard, or test paper during the scoring process.
For exams that require the average of three markings to be used as the official score, the average must be converted to a 10-point scale, rounded to two decimal places.
In addition to marking two independent rounds, the Examination Board must also check at least 5% of the essay exams at the same time as marking rounds 1 and 2. According to Mr. Trinh, this is to check whether the examiners have done their work evenly and if there are any errors, they can make timely adjustments.
The marking is done by the leader of the Examination Board randomly selecting a number of papers or selecting questionable papers and assigning them to the marking team for checking. The members of this team only work directly with the relevant marking teams under the direction of the head of the examination board.
How to score multiple choice test
Multiple choice test scoring is done by machine. The process of scanning, processing, scoring and reporting must be closely monitored.
After scanning, all answer sheets and exam receipts are sealed, stored and secured at the unit. The original scanned exam data files (with registration numbers, unchecked, uncorrected, ungraded) are exported from the software, ensuring the structure and requirements according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, are recorded on two identical CDs, sealed, and signed by the supervisory department; one disc is given to the Chairman of the Examination Council for storage, one disc is sent by express delivery to the Department of Quality Management under the Ministry, no later than July 4.
After sealing CD1, the units are allowed to unseal the data files for grading sent by the Quality Management Department. The test processing team will proceed to process the test and officially grade the test.
The score of the combined exam is the average of the scores of the component subjects, converted to a 10-point scale, rounded to two decimal places. The scores of the independent exams and the scores of each component subject in the combined exam are converted to a 10-point scale, rounded to two decimal places.
Director of the Department of Quality Management Mai Van Trinh confirmed that the test scoring machine has been completed, tested since the beginning of May and is ready to grade the test from now on. The test scoring process is closed, strict, and supervised by inspectors and PA83 (Internal Political Security) forces at the time of grading to ensure objectivity.
"From 2015 to now, in all multiple-choice tests that have been requested for review, there has not been a single case of score changes. That shows that machine-based multiple-choice testing ensures high accuracy," said Mr. Trinh.
The results of the national high school exam will be announced on July 11. After receiving the results, candidates can submit a request for review if they find their exam scores inappropriate, no later than July 20.
