A remedy for neurodermatitis.

In traditional Chinese medicine, neurodermatitis is called "niu pi tian" or "gan tian." The cause is attributed to wind-heat affecting the skin, subsequently causing blood dryness and preventing the skin from being properly nourished.

Patients experience itching and scratching, especially at night, causing the skin to become red, slightly wrinkled, raised, and flat, shiny papules that later form oval clusters, sometimes long streaks with irregular, indistinct borders. These commonly appear on both sides of the neck, nape, thighs, anal-genital area, and buttock creases. The following are some remedies for each type of the condition.

Wind-heat syndrome (early stage): newly inflamed skin, slightly pinkish in color, itchy, and thin. Treatment involves dispelling wind and clearing heat.

"Thuyền thoái" refers to the dried, shed skin of a cicada.

Oral medication - use one of the following methods:

Recipe 1: 12g of Mentha arvensis, 12g of Saposhnikovia divaricata, 12g of Polygonum multiflorum, 12g of Xanthium strumarium, 16g of Rehmannia glutinosa, 12g of Spatholobus parviflorus, 12g of Cissus quadrangularis, 16g of Coix lacryma-jobi, 16g of Lonicera japonica. Decoction to be taken once a day.

Recipe 2: Chrysanthemum 12g, honeysuckle 12g, burdock 12g, peony root 8g, rehmannia root 16g, bitter ginseng 12g, smilax root 16g. Decoction to be taken once a day.

Formula 3: Modified Xiaofeng San: 12g of Schizonepeta tenuifolia, 6g of Cicada moulting, 12g of Rehmannia glutinosa, 12g of Saposhnikovia divaricata, 20g of Gypsum, 12g of Arctium lappa seeds, 12g of Angelica sinensis, 12g of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, 12g of Aconitum carmichaelii. Decoction to be taken once a day.

Formula 4: Modified Wind-Clearing and Heat-Reducing Decoction: Schizonepeta tenuifolia 16g, Saposhnikovia divaricata 12g, Cicada moulting 6g, Chrysanthemum morifolium 12g, Rehmannia glutinosa 16g, Lonicera japonica 12g, Gleditsia sinensis thorns 12g, Sophora flavescens 12g. Decoction to be taken once a day.

Recipe 5: 12g of *Kê huyết đằng* (a type of vine), 12g of black beans, 12g of *Sa sâm* (a type of ginseng), 12g of *Lỷ tử* (a type of goji berry), 12g of *Cây cứt lợn* (a type of plant), 16g of *Kinh giới* (a type of herb), 12g of *Cam thảo nam* (a type of licorice), 6g of *Thuyền thoái* (a type of vine), 8g of *Cương tàm* (a type of silkworm). Decoction to be taken once a day.

Lesson 6: Modified Rehmannia Root Decoction: Polygonum multiflorum 16g, Rehmannia glutinosa 16g, Angelica sinensis 12g, Scrophularia ningpoensis 12g, Scorpio 6g, Bombyx mori 8g, Mentha arvensis 12g, Tribulus terrestris 12g. Decoction to be taken once a day.

Topical medications:

5g of alum (finely ground), 25g of sulfur, 5ml of talcum powder, 300ml of 70% alcohol. Grind all three ingredients into a fine powder and soak in alcohol for one week. Shake well before applying. Apply 3-6 times a day.

Blood-drying type (chronic dermatitis): the affected skin is thick and dry, very itchy at night, and oozes fluid and bleeds when scratched. The treatment involves nourishing the blood, moistening dryness, and dispelling wind.
