Professor Ngo Bao Chau's interesting love problem makes young people love it
In the first issue of Pi Magazine, Professor Ngo Bao Chau shared a love problem whose appropriate level to solve is from grade 1 to Professor and Doctor of Science.
Love and mathematics seem to have nothing to do with each other, but with the problem that Professor Ngo Bao Chau gave, everyone had to nod in agreement that the combination of mathematics and love would create something extremely interesting.

The previous problem was shared by Professor Ngo Bao Chau on his personal page. |
The problem content is as follows:
A college student lives in Nga Tu So (Hanoi), his house is near a bus stop. He has two girlfriends, one in the dormitory of the National Economics University, the other in the dormitory of the Pedagogical University.
To visit his friend at the economics school, he took the bus down to the National Economics University. To visit his friend at the Pedagogical University, he took the bus up again.
Since the guy liked both girls equally, he just went to the bus stop and got on the first bus that passed by both places.
Every Saturday afternoon, he randomly goes to the bus station. Buses to the National Economics University and the Pedagogical University come every 15 minutes.
After a while, for some unknown reason, he realized that he visited his friend from the economics school twice as often as his friend from the teacher training school.
Can you give any reasonable reason to explain this?
The answer to this problem is scheduled to be published in issue 2 of PI magazine. The person who provides a mathematically sound answer and sends it to the magazine's editorial office will have a chance to be published in issue 1.
And after a long time of waiting, finally, the most reasonable answer was given by two lecturers who are former students of Hanoi National University of Education:
"According to the schedule, the bus to the University of Education from this stop is 5 minutes behind the bus to the National Economics University. If this guy arrives at the stop randomly, the chance of meeting the bus to the University of Education is only 5 minutes. While the chance of going to the National Economics University is 10 minutes, and therefore he finds himself going to the National Economics University twice as often as to the University of Education'.

And this is the reasonable answer chosen to be published in the first issue of Pi magazine. |
In short, the most reasonable answer given so far for this 'perverse love' is the bus schedule.
This interesting problem quickly became a hot topic among young people on social networks. Many people complained because math is always difficult, and adding this complicated love story to the mix, only math 'superheroes' can solve it.
Some netizens are very interested and think that these scientific and practical math problems will increase people's love of math.
