(Baonghean.vn) - After serving three prison sentences, Sy is once again entangled in legal troubles. Notably, this time Sy was arrested just six months after his release from prison. For transporting drugs for a fee of over 5 million VND, Sy is paying the price with a life sentence.

On March 15th, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a criminal trial to hear the case against defendant Nguyen Dinh Sy (born in 1988), residing in Thanh Thuy commune, Thanh Chuong district, for the crime of "Illegal trafficking of narcotics.

This is the fourth time Sy has appeared in court. Previously, the defendant had been sentenced to prison three times for the crimes of theft, resisting arrest, and illegal drug trafficking.

After serving a six-month prison sentence, Sy re-offended. According to the case file, on July 26, 2022, Sy was approached by a man named Tran Van Tai (residing in Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district) to go to the Khe Da Cuc area in Thanh Thuy commune to "pick up goods." Tai promised to pay Sy between 5 and 7 million VND.

Early the next morning, Sy received orders from Tai to pick up the "goods," so he took the bag of money that Tai had given him earlier. After waiting for many hours, Sy saw a man deliver a black bag of goods, so he accepted it and took it home.

At approximately 10:00 AM on July 29th, while delivering drugs to Tài, Sỹ was stopped by police for a motorcycle inspection. At this point, Sỹ abandoned his motorcycle and fled up a hill covered with acacia trees, but was apprehended. Upon inspecting the plastic bag, police discovered over 1.1 kg of drugs.

Based on Sy's testimony, the police issued an emergency detention order against Tai. At the police station, Tai confessed to asking Sy to buy a golden turtle from a Laotian man, but Sy was unsuccessful. Tai denied hiring Sy to receive drugs.

At the trial, the defendant Sy did not admit to the crime. He claimed he only helped Tai "pick up the goods," and did not know what was inside; he only learned it was drugs when he was caught red-handed.

The panel of judges concluded that, although the defendant did not admit to the crime, based on the collected investigative documents and the scene examination report, the prosecution of the defendant for the crime of illegally transporting narcotics was correct in identifying the perpetrator and the crime.

In this case, the defendant has no mitigating circumstances. The aggravating circumstance is recidivism, therefore the court sentenced Nguyen Dinh Sy to life imprisonment for the crime of illegally transporting narcotics.
