Following a cabinet meeting that same day, Deputy Home Minister Visarn Techateerawat announced the declaration of a state of emergency.

Thailand's state of emergency decree will give its security agencies the power to impose curfews, make arrests without charge for suspected individuals, censor media, ban gatherings of more than five people for political purposes, and issue lockdowns in many areas across the country.
