(Baonghean.vn) - Provincial leaders committed to coordinate with Japanese enterprises to continue surveying and researching the feasibility of projects to produce rice bran oil, defatted rice bran, etc. in Nghe An.

Attending the working session on the afternoon of March 6 were Mr. Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives of a number of departments, branches and sectors, and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). On the side of the Japanese business delegation, there was Mr. Motonori Tsuno - Former Chief Representative of JICA in Hanoi, Director of Project Development Office, Tsuno Food Industry Company as head of the delegation.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Motonori Tsuno - Director of Project Development Office, Tsuno Food Industry Company thanked Nghe An province for the warm welcome. He said that Tsuno is a business specializing in the production and trading of rice bran oil products and other by-products, with a history of 70 years, accounting for more than 45% of the market share of rice bran oil products in Japan.

However, Japan’s population is aging. The number of working-age people is decreasing, and domestic raw materials for rice bran oil extraction and refining are decreasing, forcing businesses to seek stable supplies from outside.

“We are looking to explore investment possibilities in the Vietnamese market - which is rich in capital and has potential in producing input materials, and have chosen Nghe An - a province with high rice output - as the destination for this survey to explore the market related to rice bran,” Mr. Tsuno shared.

Through a preliminary survey, the delegation found that the milling facilities were quite small in scale and had low output, making it difficult to immediately start producing rice bran. This was explained by the representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as being due to the characteristics of Nghe An, where rice is mainly consumed domestically, so there are few large milling facilities. However, in the future, the Japanese side said that they could consider how to collect raw materials for production if they invested in Nghe An.

Earlier, in the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited the rice milling factory of Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company, surveyed the ability to supply rice bran and the potential for cooperation in the agricultural sector.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: Nghe An has a rice output of 1 million tons/year, equivalent to 700,000 tons of brown rice, after milling, about 70,000 tons of bran are collected. If this amount of bran is collected and consumed, Nghe An farmers will increase their income by about 10% compared to current rice production.
