Man shot dead after botching 15 billion VND gourd deal

On October 12, Tuyen Quang Provincial Police announced that they had issued a decision to prosecute and arrest Mr. Ma Thanh Toan (65 years old, residing in Yen Son district) for murder.

On September 25, Tuyen Quang Provincial Police received a report that Nguyen Cao Son (50 years old) died at Na Nghe Bridge (Na Hang District) while sitting in a car. During the autopsy, the police discovered a bullet in the left eye socket. The edges of the wound were covered with many black impurities.

Mr. Toan stated that he had agreed to help Ms. Cao Thi Luyen (36 years old) buy a copper color-changing gourd worth 15 billion VND. To see the product, Mr. Toan asked for a deposit of 500 million VND by August 31. Ms. Luyen agreed and agreed that if he could not buy the product, she would have to return the deposit and pay an additional 250 million VND in compensation.

However, Mr. Toan failed to negotiate with the gourd owner as they kept delaying and finally refused to sell. The deposit was almost spent and he was afraid of having to pay compensation, so he came up with the idea of ​​threatening Ms. Luyen's group so that they wouldn't dare to ask for the money.

On the evening of September 25, Mr. Toan pretended to meet Ms. Luyen at Na Nghe bridge to see the gourd. At the meeting point, Toan "acted" that his foot was in pain, so he asked Ms. Luyen to go to the shed first and he would come later. Agreeing, Ms. Luyen and two other people went into the shed. Mr. Nguyen Cao Son and another person (hired by Ms. Luyen to go with him) stayed behind to watch the car.

Mr. Son sat next to the driver's seat with the windshield down to open about 10cm, the other person sat in the back seat.

Mr. Toan said he intended to shoot to intimidate Ms. Luyen's group and Mr. Son was the first target, but he did not expect to cause death.

When police arrested Mr. Toan, they seized a gun, four bullets and a shell casing. In his house were some fraudulent documents and a safe that Ms. Luyen had bought for him to store the gourd.
