This decree stipulates four forms of funeral organization.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just announced Government Decree No. 105 on the organization of funerals for officials, civil servants, and public employees. This Decree replaces Decree No. 62 issued in 2001.

Government Decree No. 105 on the organization of funerals for officials, civil servants, and public employees emphasizes frugality and suitability to the country's socio-economic conditions; aims to limit and gradually eliminate outdated customs, superstitions, and wasteful practices; and encourages cremation, electric cremation, and burial in their hometowns.

Accordingly, this Decree stipulates four forms of funeral organization: State funeral; State-level funeral; High-level funeral; and Funeral for officials, civil servants, and public employees. The content of each funeral form is specifically regulated with details such as: the position for which a State funeral is held; the time; the location; the burial place; the method of announcing the death, etc. Regarding the forms of funeral organization, it is noteworthy that Article 4 of Decree 105 stipulates that the coffin of the deceased, whether kept at the funeral home or at home, should not have a glass window on the lid; that no paper offerings or banknotes issued by the State Bank of Vietnam and foreign currency should be scattered during the procession from the funeral home or home to the burial place; and that no paper offerings should be burned at the burial site.

The issuance of Government Decree No. 105 on the organization of funerals for officials, civil servants, and public employees also aims to create a precedent and raise social awareness in practicing a civilized lifestyle.
