Three defendants sentenced to 15 years in prison for trafficking people to China.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 7th, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a public trial for the case of Tran Dien Thuong (born in 1976, residing in Vinh City) and his accomplices for the crime of human trafficking.

According to the indictment of the Nghe An Provincial People's Procuracy, due to their acquaintance, Lo Thi Phuong Xa (born in 1992) and Ngan Thi Thong (born in 1979), both residing in Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district, persuaded D.T.H.K.H. (born in 1992, residing in Vinh City) to marry a Chinese man. If she went, Xa and Thuong would pay her 40 million VND, and she would be able to return to Vietnam after 3 months. H. agreed. To get the money, H. pawned her motorbike for 1.5 million VND.

On the evening of September 20, 2013, Thuong and Xa took H. by car to Mong Cai (Quang Ninh) to hand her over to Ngan Thi Thong to take her to China. Because Ngan Thi Thong could not come, she asked someone else to pick up H. and also paid Thuong and Xa 10 million dong.

After taking H. to China, Ngan Thi Thong sold the victim to a Chinese man for 120 million VND. Thong gave H. 40 million VND and sent an additional 20 million VND back to Vietnam for Thuong and Xa.

After being sold as a wife to a Chinese man, D.TKH escaped back to Vietnam in late December 2013 and filed a complaint against Ngan Thi Thong, Tran Dien Thuong, and Lo Thi Phuong Xa for human trafficking.

At the trial, the defendants confessed honestly and expressed remorse. They stated that their limited understanding of the law led to their crimes. After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced each defendant to 5 years in prison. The defendants were also ordered to compensate the victim 3 million VND.
