Discussing the connection point plan for the Vientiane - Hanoi expressway through the Nam On - Thanh Thuy border gate pair

On the morning of October 13, the Bolykhamxay provincial leadership delegation had a working session with the leaders of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee on issues related to the construction of the Hanoi - Vientiane expressway through Thanh Thuy - Nam On border gate.

The Hanoi - Vientiane expressway project has been signed an investment and construction agreement by the governments of Vietnam and Laos, with priority investment progress before 2030.

This is an important route connecting trade and national security between the two countries, creating convenient traffic connections, especially with the North Central Vietnam seaport system, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, tourism services, goods exchange and improving people's lives in the region.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed contents related to the route approved by the two governments: Vientiane - Pak Xan - Vieng Thong - Nam On - Thanh Thuy - Hanoi.

After adjustment, the total length of the route is 688 km, with the length in Vietnam being approximately 370 km. Of which, about 406 km will be newly built, including 345 km in Laos and 61 km in Vietnam from Thanh Thuy Border Gate to Vinh City and joining the North-South Eastern Expressway under construction.

The completed scale of the Vientiane - Hanoi highway has 4 to 6 lanes; total investment is more than 6.1 million USD.

The above route option has the advantage of being short in length, connecting disadvantaged areas of Bolykhamxay province, Laos, passing through the Thanh Thuy Border Gate area, which has been planned in accordance with the policies, agreements, and signed treaties of the two countries; ensuring technical standards, facilitating exploitation, promoting potential advantages for economic development, and facilitating logistics of the two localities.

At the meeting, delegates discussed the proposed location of the highway connection point on the border between the two sides in the Nam On Border Gate area in Bolykhamxay province of Laos and Thanh Thuy Border Gate in Nghe An province.

Through discussion, the leaders of the two provinces assigned relevant departments and branches to coordinate with the consulting unit to study the connection point of the expressway connecting Hanoi - Vientiane passing through the Thanh Thuy Border Gate area, Nghe An province / Nam On, Bolykhamxay province of Laos, report back to the leaders of the two provinces to agree on the connection point, and submit the plan to the Governments of the two countries in the coming time.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen coordination, exchange and cooperation, further deepening the political relationship; improving the effectiveness of economic, trade, investment and agricultural development cooperation; focusing on cooperation in the fields of culture, education, human resource training, health, science and technology to complement each other's advantages, and working towards the common interests of the two provinces./.
