The leader of VTC digital television said that if VTV cannot buy the World Cup broadcasting rights, no other station can afford to buy them. VTV will not buy them at any cost to avoid being unreasonably forced to pay higher prices by its partners.

The 2018 World Cup is two months away, but at this point, the copyright issue for the most exciting football tournament on the planet in Vietnam has not yet been finalized. A VTV leader said that VTV and its partners are still in the process of negotiating, everything is still very tense, especially the price.

“We can only say that the negotiation process is still ongoing. VTV is facing difficulties as the partner is offering a very high price,”VTV leader said.

The parties refused to disclose the amount of money for the 2018 World Cup television copyright package in Vietnam, but it is certainly much higher than the price four years ago.

The issue of television copyright for the 2018 World Cup is very hot.

At the 2010 World Cup, VTV had to spend 3.5 million USD to buy the television rights and then share them with other stations. However, this figure is nothing compared to the World Cup held in Brazil 4 years later.

At the 2014 World Cup, MP&Silva offered $14 million. VTV was still the only broadcaster that could keep up, but had to “bargain” with its partners for months before settling on a figure of less than $10 million.

The scenario is repeating itself at this year’s World Cup, and VTV, as a national television station, is doing its best to get the television copyright package at the most “affordable” price. But as insiders admit, they are really stressed as this time their partner is being very “tough”.

If it has the 2018 World Cup broadcasting rights, VTV will most likely share them with other stations, with the ultimate goal of serving a wide audience. Of course, the stations must work with VTV to agree on a clean rebroadcast or a complete rebroadcast of the match and VTV’s logo with advertisements before, during and after the match.

VTV strives to bring the most exciting football feast on the planet to viewers.

A leader of VTC digital television station said that at this time, if VTV cannot buy the World Cup broadcasting rights, no other station can afford to buy them. Of course, learning from previous experiences, VTV will not buy at any cost to avoid being unreasonably forced to pay higher prices by its partners.
