Which driving license is most valuable in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 59 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, driving licenses in Vietnam are divided into the following categories:

Among the above mentioned driving licenses, the highest driving license is the FE class. Accordingly, the owner of the FE driving license can drive most types of vehicles.

In addition, the conditions for studying and taking the FE driver's license exam are considered the most difficult compared to other types of licenses - requiring the highest level of vehicle operating ability, including driving experience and traffic knowledge.

According to Article 17 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the FE driver's license is only valid for 05 years from the date of issue. The specific validity period will be printed directly on the driver's license issued by the state agency.

When the FE driver's license expires, if the driver wants to continue using this driver's license, he/she must apply for a re-issue according to the provisions of Article 36 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT:

- FE driving license expired less than 03 months: Drivers will be reissued FE driving license without having to take the test.

- FE driving license expired from 03 months to less than 01 year: Driver must retake the theory test. If passing the theory test, the FE driving license will be reissued.

- FE driving license expired for 01 year or more: Driver must retake both theory and practice tests.
