Mooncakes are not for children.
With less than 20 days left until the Mid-Autumn Festival, shops and supermarkets have already started selling...A wide variety of mooncakes are available, with many types and prices... "Low-class" ones range from 8,000 VND to a few tens of thousands VND per piece, while "affordable" ones cost around 50,000-100,000 VND and...The "branded" ones cost several hundred thousand.
This year, in particular, the mooncake market has seen the emergence of many "special" varieties with exorbitant prices, ranging from 500,000 VND per piece to several million VND, and many boxes priced in US dollars with luxurious designs (boxes made of artistically carved wood, lined with gold silk, fillings made with ingredients such as chestnuts, pineapple, abalone, sea cucumber...). Many familiar mooncake manufacturers such as Hai Ha, Kinh Do, Huu Nghi... have also launched new types of mooncakes this year with prices reaching 1 million VND.
Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally a "full moon festival" for children, where they can admire the moon and enjoy festive treats. Mooncakes are an indispensable part of the children's moon-gazing feast. However, these exorbitantly priced mooncakes are "made" for wealthy individuals to give as gifts and as bargaining chips in business dealings. These mooncakes are not... for children!?!
