Japanese press publishes many articles about former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai

Major Japanese media outlets such as Jiji, Kyodo, Tokyo Shimbun... all reported the death of former Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

Newspapers all reported that he was an active implementer of Vietnam's renovation process. In 2005, he was the first Vietnamese Prime Minister to officially visit the United States since 1975.

Newspapers also praised him as a leading economic reformer of Vietnam during the period of Vietnam's economic development.

Nikkei newspaper in an article considered him as a strong leader of Vietnam in improving Vietnam's investment environment after 1997 with maintaining a continuous economic growth rate of 7% for many years. The newspaper also quoted the Prime Minister's famous saying to foreign investors that if investors have any complaints about Vietnam's investment conditions, they should tell the Prime Minister.

As for Japan, from April 6-12, 2003, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai officially visited Japan and held talks with the then Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Koizumi. The two sides agreed on a Japan-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement. Accordingly, Japan will help Vietnam improve its investment and trade environment, specifically implementing the Japan-Vietnam Joint Initiative.

The press release at that time stated that Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Japan was aimed at enhancing exchanges between the two countries, especially in the economic field.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs assessed that this visit demonstrates Vietnam's desire to expand bilateral relations in many areas. The visit opens up a series of exchange activities between the two countries in the future.
