Foreign press praises Vietnamese special forces

The American magazine National Interest recently published an article praising the excellent skills of Vietnamese commandos, especially their skills in using explosives and weapons.

When praising the skills of Vietnamese commandos, the National Interest newspaper recalled the heroic feat of Vietnamese soldiers that caused the US Navy pain during the Vietnam War - that was the feat of sinking the 9,800-ton helicopter landing ship named USNS Card on the Saigon River.

On the night of May 2, 1964, after spending several hours evading the guards and approaching the USNS Card, the two Saigon commandos began attaching bombs to the hull just above sea level near the bottom of the ship and the engine on the starboard side of the ship. By 2:00 a.m., the two commandos had installed the bomb and retreated safely. At about 3:00 a.m., the bomb exploded.

The attack shocked Saigon and the world at that time. The bomb's destructive power not only sank part of the USNS Card but also killed five American sailors. However, after the attack, the US side only announced to the media that the ship was only slightly damaged. To achieve this feat, Vietnamese commandos were masters in camouflage and the use of explosives, National Interest commented.

Given the special skills of Vietnamese special forces, it is no surprise that in addition to the National Interest, the Russian press has also highly appreciated the skills of Vietnamese special forces. Accordingly, the special forces are lightly equipped when entering the battlefield (short pants, barefoot, and rudimentary weapons), however, the strength of Vietnamese special forces is truly admirable.

Vietnamese commandos are masters of explosives. While the US Navy SEALs use explosives with safe electric fuses, Vietnamese commandos use conventional fuses such as pop-up fuses, classic fuses, or mine and grenade fuses.

Their explosive warfare skills are formidable. The commandos can attack targets with explosives while on the move, or plant explosives to disable tanks, armored personnel carriers, and military vehicles. They are also experts in homemade mines to destroy enemy vehicles, from low-flying helicopters to motor vehicles, motorboats, and ships.

Fighting on the jungle battlefield, the commandos were very skilled in using primitive weapons. From crossbows, spears to various hot and cold traps, causing a very heavy psychological impact on the US military forces during the Vietnam War.

Among tactical skills, obstacle overcoming, camouflage and survival skills are the most important. Special forces soldiers have the ability to overcome all obstacles with the highest speed and durability, which can be high-rise buildings, barbed wire fences, etc.

Not only Russian newspapers, Chinese newspapers also have to admire the talent of Vietnamese special forces. That is the information and images just posted on the Huanqiu website. Images of Vietnamese special forces officers demonstrating anti-terrorism techniques and tactics at the end of 2013, at the Special Forces Officer School, Special Forces Command appeared in Chinese newspapers. Along with that are comments praising this special force of Vietnam from Chinese newspapers.

Huanqiu newspaper commented: "Vietnamese special forces have excellent martial arts skills, they are masters of kung fu and are very skilled in handling primitive weapons, it will be very difficult to have personal confrontation with this force."

Although considered the cradle of martial arts, the Chinese press still has to bow before the "unimaginable" performances of the Vietnamese special forces. The proof is that previously on the Chinese military website chinamil, there was a separate directory about the Vietnamese special forces with articles evaluating the strength of this force. Beijing media even compared the Vietnamese special forces to the US SEAL force.
