Earlier, at around 1 AM on August 2nd, a nine-person police patrol team from Khanh Thanh commune was conducting security and order checks in the area. While stationed at Sa Tran bridge, the team spotted two young men (approximately 25-30 years old) on a motorbike carrying tools for stealing dogs. They signaled them to stop for inspection. However, the two men refused to comply and recklessly drove their motorbike straight into the patrol team in an attempt to escape. At this time, Officer Le Van Nghi (born in 1960, a police officer from Khanh Thanh commune) was blocking the road from Khanh Thanh commune towards National Highway 7 when the passenger on the motorbike suddenly pulled out a sword about 50cm long and slashed Officer Nghi in the forehead before speeding away into the night. Officer Le Van Nghi was immediately taken to the Khanh Thanh commune health station for first aid and then transferred to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital for emergency treatment.

After a period of dedicated care from the doctors and nurses at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, Comrade Nghi's health is now gradually recovering.

On behalf of the People's Police Newspaper, Colonel Bui Van Ngan - Head of the Department for Building Mass Movements to Protect National Security - Nghe An Provincial Police, presented a donation of 3 million VND to Comrade Le Van Nghi and expressed his hope for his speedy recovery so that he can continue his work and ensure security and order at the local level. This amount was sponsored by Motorola Solutions through the People's Police Newspaper's social charity fund for police officers injured or killed while on duty.
