Previously, at around 1am on August 2, a 9-member Khanh Thanh commune police task force was on patrol to control security and order in the area. When the task force was blocking Sa Tran bridge, they discovered two young men (about 25-30 years old) riding a motorbike carrying dog-catching tools and immediately signaled them to stop for inspection. However, the two subjects did not comply and recklessly drove their motorbike straight into the task force to escape. At this time, comrade Le Van Nghi (born in 1960, a police officer of Khanh Thanh commune) was blocking the direction from Khanh Thanh commune to National Highway 7 when suddenly the subject sitting behind the motorbike pulled out a sword about 50cm long and slashed Mr. Nghi's forehead, then sped away in the night. Immediately afterwards, Mr. Le Van Nghi was quickly taken to Khanh Thanh commune medical station for first aid and then transferred to Nghe An General Hospital for emergency treatment.

After a period of dedicated care by doctors and nurses at Nghe An General Friendship Hospital, comrade Nghi's health has gradually recovered.
