Insurance pays 30 million VND/person killed in boat capsize in Ha Long Bay
Insurance companies have pledged to promptly pay insurance benefits to victims of the tourist boat capsize in Ha Long Bay, with compensation of 30 million VND per person killed.
Immediately after the Green Bay 58 tourist boat capsized in Ha Long Bay, the Insurance Supervision and Management Department (Ministry of Finance) issued an urgent dispatch requesting insurance companies to review the damage, promptly advance compensation to the victims and report the results on July 21.
According to official sources, the Insurance Supervision and Administration Department recommends insurance companies:
Coordinate with competent authorities to determine personal and property damage of organizations and individuals participating in insurance.
Advance and pay compensation quickly and fully to the insurance buyer and beneficiary.
Report the results of the settlement to the Department before July 21.
Vietnam Insurance Association needs to provide humanitarian assistance in accordance with the law.

The Green Bay 58 ship (license plate QN-7105) was built in 2015, 24m long, 12-ton capacity, and 48-passenger capacity. In January 2025, the ship was granted a certificate of technical safety and environmental protection.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, Deputy General Director of Bao Long Insurance Corporation, the ship has purchased shipowner civil liability insurance and crew accident insurance at Bao Long Company (Quang Ninh branch). The contract is effective from April 14, 2025 to April 14, 2026, with the following terms:
Maximum compensation: 250 million VND/accident.
Maximum payment for passengers/third parties: 30 million VND/person/incident.
With the number of victims killed in the accident, Bao Long Company expects to pay a total of about 1.2 billion VND. Injured cases will be considered based on the rate of injury and medical records.
Bao Long representative affirmed that they will process the documents as quickly as possible, even outside of business hours, to promptly support the victims' relatives.
At the time of the incident, the boat was carrying 49 people (46 tourists and 3 crew members) on a tour of Ha Long Bay route 2, including Sung Sot cave and Ti Top island. Immediately after the incident, the insurance company coordinated with the authorities to visit and encourage the families of the victims.
Rescue work and investigation into the cause of the incident are being actively carried out by authorities.
