Another armed group also shot and killed an election official and wounded four others in the northern Casmia region. Earlier, hundreds of protesters threw stones at polling stations, forcing security forces to use tear gas to disperse the crowds. However, voting was not disrupted. According to election officials, 28% of the more than 1 million eligible voters cast their ballots in this volatile region.

With 814 million voters, India is holding the world's largest general election in six weeks, with results expected to be announced on May 16th.
