American newspaper admires T-90 tanks Vietnam just received
In an article recently published in National Interest magazine, American military experts have given glowing praise to the T-90 main battle tank.
The American magazine National Interest published an article analyzing the superior combat features of the Russian-made "cheap main battle tank" T-90.
According to information from the US newspaper, Vietnam has recently received the first batch of T-90 tanks including more than 30 units, which is half of the ordered number of 64 units. Previously, the Iraqi Army also received these tanks from Russia to replace the M1 Abrams, which caused quite a bit of disappointment.
National Interest commented that compared to Western MBT lines, it is easy to see that the price of the T-90 is very cheap, only about 4 million USD for each T-90S or more than 5 million USD if the customer chooses the T-90MS version, while the Leopard 2 tank usually costs over 10 million USD, but its combat performance is impressive.
Vietnam's T-90S main battle tank participates in the race to honor the "father" of the T-34. |
Officially introduced in 1992, initially considered only a modernized version based on the T-72 with the designation T-72BU, the T-90 has shown that it is truly a superior machine, the upgraded version T-90A with the export variant T-90S has demonstrated its superior advantages.
Combining the advantages of two famous Soviet tanks during the Cold War, the T-72 and the T-80, the MBT T-90 is an effective combination of firepower, controllability and operational reliability.
Costing only half the price of the M1 Abrams, the T-90 proves to be stronger in both offense and defense. The 125mm smoothbore gun with an automatic loading system provides superior combat capabilities. The T-90's extremely solid armor has helped it survive against weapons that have shot down many Abrams.

The US newspaper further commented that the T-90 is the most suitable main battle tank for medium-intensity warfare in second and third world countries. While modern Western tanks are designed for low-intensity combat and urban warfare.
The successor version of T-90S has been introduced by Russia, which is T-90MS and T-90M Proryv-3, however they will play a complementary role to T-90S and not be produced to replace it, which further reinforces the view that T-90S is still very effective in modern warfare.
Finally, National Interest Magazine emphasized that during the period 2001 - 2010, the T-90S became the number 1 best-selling main battle tank in the world arms market, affirming the competitiveness of the Russian defense industry.
