What are the passing scores for the People's Security University?
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dong, the entrance exam scores for police-related fields in 2016 are expected to be higher than last year, and the enrollment quotas for schools will be reduced by half.
- Minh Hoang asks: "In the recent National High School Graduation Examination, I achieved a total score of 24.75 and plan to apply to the People's Security University. What majors at the university do I have a chance of getting accepted into?"
- Reply:
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Archives and Library Center at the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting, the expected cut-off scores for police-affiliated schools may increase this year, but not significantly.
The cutoff score depends on the candidates' exam results. Based on the assessment, the average score of the candidates is low, but the expected cutoff score will still increase because the Ministry of Public Security's quota for this year has been reduced by half.

In 2015, the entrance exam scores for the People's Security University were quite high. Some majors had scores as high as 27.5 points, such as Information Technology, while Criminal Investigation had a score of 27 points. Most majors had scores ranging from 24 to 26.
The People's Security Academy only offers one major: Criminal Investigation. For male applicants, the cutoff score is 25 for block A, 23.5 for block A1, 23.5 for block C, and 21.75 for block D.
For reference, Minh Hoang has a good chance of getting into the English Language and Chinese Language majors, based on his D-block scores at the People's Security University. Alternatively, he could get into the Criminal Investigation major at the People's Security Academy using his C or D-block scores.
In other fields, Minh Hoang is unlikely to be admitted because the cut-off scores in previous years have all been high.
Additionally, if Hoang still intends to pursue a career in the police force, he could consider the Fire Prevention and Fighting University, the People's Police Political Academy, or the People's Police Academy, which had lower admission scores in 2015.
Specifically, the Fire Prevention and Fighting University has a cutoff score of 24.25 for Block A (Southern region), the People's Public Security Logistics and Engineering University has a cutoff score of 23.25 for Block A (Northern region) and 24 for Block D1 (Southern region), and 21 for Block C (Southern region) and 22.5 for Block D1 (Northern region) and 17.5 for Block D1 (Southern region).

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dong, in recent years, the group of police training schools has received attention from candidates and parents, with relatively high admission scores.
Representatives from the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting suggested that if candidates do not have enough points to enter the university-level programs at police academies, but still wish to pursue a career in the field, there are still 4 colleges and 11 vocational schools nationwide that offer similar programs.
However, candidates need to consider carefully. According to statistics, in 2015, to get into college-level programs at many schools, candidates needed to achieve 27-28 points, while vocational programs required 21-22 points.
Taking a roundabout route to enter the police force.
According to Major Nguyen Van Truong, Deputy Head of the Training Team, Personnel Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police, the recruitment quota for the major decreased by nearly 50% in 2016, so the expected cut-off scores for admission are very high, especially for female candidates.
The major suggested that candidates who wish to work in the People's Public Security Force, if they do not apply to police-affiliated schools, could study Law, Medicine, Economics, etc., so that after graduation they still have the opportunity to apply for positions.
In addition to graduates from police academies nationwide, local police also recruit additional staff from other civilian fields, primarily focusing on Law, Medicine, English, and Economics.
Depending on the needs of each locality, the recruitment quotas for police officers with bachelor's degrees in various civilian fields vary.

A representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department gave an example: in 2015, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department organized a recruitment exam to select 150 candidates who graduated from criminal law and medical fields. For these candidates, all procedures and regulations were still strictly followed according to the Ministry of Public Security's recruitment regulations: personal records, height, weight, etc.
Those who pass these examinations will be promoted to the rank of second lieutenant and sent by their unit to attend a short-term training course in their field.
According to Mr. Truong, the Ministry of Public Security is also planning to organize entrance exams and provide second degree training for graduates from other majors who wish to pursue studies in fields related to the police force in the future.
