How many banks in Vietnam were hit by Wanna Cry malware?
Mr. Hoang Minh Tien - Information Security Department of the State Bank of Vietnam provided the latest information on the cyber security situation in Vietnam.
“Up to now, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has not received any information from any commercial bank reporting that it has been infected with the WannaCry malware. As soon as the information about the Wanna Cry malware attacking computers in many countries around the world was released, the Ministry of Information and Communications sent a warning letter to the SBV and we have sent an official document to commercial banks to prevent this type of malware,” said Mr. Hoang Minh Tien.
According to Mr. Hoang Minh Tien, the Wanna Cry ransomware focuses on Windows vulnerabilities attacked by hackers. The State Bank of Vietnam has issued a document instructing commercial banks to update the latest Windows patch.

Previously, a representative of BKAV said that there had been cases of infection with this malware in Vietnam. The Wanna Cry ransomware infected more than 100,000 computers in 74 countries around the world in just a few hours.
Wanna Cry attacks victims' computers via email attachments or malicious links, like other ransomware strains. However, this malware has the added ability to infect peer-to-peer computers. Specifically, Wanna Cry will scan all computers on the same network to find devices containing the EternalBlue vulnerability of the SMB service (on Windows operating systems). From there, the malware can spread to vulnerable computers without requiring users to directly interact with malicious attachments or links.

According to Bkav experts, it has been a long time since a virus has spread widely over the Internet, combined with exploiting vulnerabilities to spread within LANs. Similar viruses in the past were mainly used by hackers to "score points" rather than to directly destroy or make money. Wanna Cry can be classified as the most dangerous because it spreads quickly and is highly destructive.
Marcus, along with Darien Huss, a friend from the security company ProofPoint, accidentally discovered a "kill switch" that could control WannaCry. After his true identity was shared on social media, many companies sent Marcus Hutchins job offers. This young IT expert has helped more than 10,000 computers worldwide avoid being infected with the WannaCry virus. According to the latest information, a 22-year-old IT expert from the UK has found a way to neutralize the Wanna Cry ransomware that is spreading. Marcus Hutchins is currently working with the government to prevent a second virus.
Bkav experts recommend users to update the patch as soon as possible, by going to Windows Update → Check for updates to check for the latest patches. It is necessary to urgently back up important data on the computer. It is recommended to open text files received from the Internet in the Safe Run isolation environment and install permanent anti-virus software on the computer for automatic protection. Bkav Pro users have been automatically prevented from similar exploitation scenarios. |
