How many soldiers protect Russian airspace?

More than 6,000 military and civilian specialists are involved in air defense duty every day to ensure the security of the vast Russian Federation.

The Information and Mass Communications Department of the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the above information on December 15, on the occasion of the Radio Engineering Corps celebrating its 65th anniversary.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Radio Engineering Troops are the main source of information about airborne targets. The servicemen conduct radar reconnaissance and provide radar calculations to the control center.

“More than 6,000 military and civilian personnel are on duty every day on air defense duty, performing tasks of protecting the country's air borders and monitoring the use of airspace, controlling its use within the composition of combat radio engineering units,” the Ministry of National Defense's announcement stated.

Also according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, over the past 5 years, the number of new radar systems equipped annually for radio engineering troops has increased more than 10 times.
