Baojun E100 - electric car priced at 5,000 USD
General Motors will start selling a small electric car in China this week for just $5,300.
The two-seater has a wheelbase of just 1,600 mm, which is 254 mm shorter than the Smart ForTwo. The E100 uses a 39-horsepower electric motor and has a top speed of 100 km/h. The car can travel 155 km on a full charge, according to GM.

The E100 has some notable features such as an infotainment system with a 7-inch screen and built-in WiFi. All versions have parking sensors and a pedestrian warning system, along with a number of other safety features. The high-end versions also have a touch screen control screen and remote control key.
Baojun, the car brand from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture in China, is also the eighth most popular brand in the market, according to data from LMC Automotive, behind giants such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda and Buick. The E100 is also Baojun's first electric car.

More than 5,000 people have registered to buy the first 200 Baojun E100s, according to GM. Another 500 will be available this week. Sales appear to be limited to the Guangxi region.
China is now the world’s largest auto market, and the government is encouraging the development of electric vehicles. Electric cars in China account for about 40% of all cars sold worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
