In the manager category, Jupp Heynckes, the architect of the treble, dominated with 383 votes. Surprisingly, the runner-up was not Jurgen Klopp but Christian Streich of Freiburg.

Schweinsteiger shared: “This award is for the whole team. It surprised me a little because there was a time when important things were always announced to me in advance.”

The 28-year-old will officially receive this prestigious award in Bayern Munich's season opener against Monchengladbach on August 9th. Schweinsteiger played 44 matches and scored 9 goals for Bayern last season. The "Bavarian giants" were also voted UEFA's European Player of the Year last season.

In the list of 10 nominees for the Player of the Year award, Stefan Kiessling of Bayern Leverkusen is the only one not from Bayern or Dortmund. These two teams also recently met again in the German Super Cup, with the Champions League runner-up emerging victorious.

Coach Heynckes shared after learning he had received the award: "So many dreams have come true."
