On November 30, Yen Bai Provincial Police announced that they had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain two reporters of the Vietnam Business and Border Trade Magazine for the crime of "extortion of property" under the provisions of Article 170 of the 2015 Penal Code (amended and supplemented in 2017).

The two cases prosecuted include: Nong Van Dung (born in 1984, in An Chau town, Son Dong district, Bac Giang province) and Nguyen Hoai Nam (born in 1989, in Doi Can ward, Tuyen Quang city, Tuyen Quang province). The decisions and orders of prosecution have been approved by the People's Procuracy of Yen Bai province.
Previously, on November 22, representatives of a number of business establishments in Yen Bai city (Yen Bai province) sent a criminal complaint to the provincial police department. In the complaint, they reported that they were threatened and intimidated by two people claiming to be "journalists" and asked to give them money, otherwise, the subjects would publish articles in magazines, reflecting information that was detrimental to the operations of these establishments.
After a short period of inspection and verification, at 3:20 p.m. the same day, in Thanh Hung village, Tan Thinh commune (Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province), the working group of the Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police discovered and recorded the incident in which Nong Van Dung and Nguyen Hoai Nam were receiving a bribe of 15 million VND from Mr. D.CC (manager of a business establishment in Yen Bai city).
Yen Bai Provincial Police are expanding the investigation to clarify the criminal acts of the defendants and other related subjects.
