Earlier, on the evening of August 8th, these individuals were caught red-handed by Nghi Loc District Police while attempting to extort money from drivers traveling on the road towards Bai Lu tourist area.

According to investigation documents from the Nghi Loc District Police, in April 2014, mobile weighing station No. 15 on National Highway 1A, located in Dien An commune (Dien Chau district), began operating to handle oversized and overloaded vehicles.

Recently, drivers of oversized and overloaded vehicles have been trying to "bypass" weigh stations by traveling along the coastal road, then circling to the Bai Lu tourist area (in Nghi Loc district), and finally turning onto National Highway 1A. Many groups of young people in Nghi Loc district have devised ways to stop vehicles on these routes and extort money from the drivers.

On July 28th, the Nghi Loc District Police summoned several individuals who had extorted money from drivers of overloaded and oversized vehicles. At the police station, they confessed to receiving money in seven separate incidents, but because there were no victims, the police lacked grounds to prosecute them.

Following a period of investigation and surveillance, the Nghi Loc district police force caught nine suspects red-handed for the crime of extortion.

Initially, the suspects confessed that for each overloaded or oversized vehicle that passed through, they would stop the driver and take 100,000 VND. They used the stolen money for drinking, partying, and buying drugs for personal use.

The Nghi Loc District Police are currently expanding their investigation into the case.
