Arrested couple from Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An for committing a series of thefts of donation money

(Baonghean.vn) - With just an iron bar wrapped in double-sided tape, they successfully carried out dozens of thefts of donation boxes at temples, pagodas, and churches from Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An.

On April 22, Hoang Mai Town Police announced that the unit had just issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Nguyen Huu Dien (born 1975), residing in An Phu Dong Ward, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City and Nguyen Thi Hang (born 1981), residing in Thoi Tam Thon Commune, Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City for the crime of Theft of property.

These are two subjects who specialize in breaking into parish churches, temples, and pagodas to steal donation money. Initially, the police agency has clarified 8 thefts at Catholic churches, temples, and pagodas in the provinces of Ninh Thuan, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, and Thanh Hoa with a total amount of over 30 million VND.

Previously, on March 4, at Yen Hoa Parish Church, Quynh Vinh Commune, Hoang Mai Town, Hoang Mai Town Police received a report from the public about the discovery of subjects stealing property at the church.

Hoang Mai town police quickly went to the scene to verify the information. At the scene, the two subjects were detained by the people along with some cash they had just taken from the church. Although caught red-handed, the subjects still denied their crimes.

The police force detained the two subjects and the evidence and brought them to the police station for questioning. Through persistent struggle, combined with persuasion and persuasion, the subjects admitted to all their crimes.

According to the suspects' statements and documents collected by the police, this group of people had no jobs. In addition to Dien and Hang, there was also Tran Thien Long (residing in My Tien commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province). However, when discovered by the people, Long quickly escaped.

To make illegal money, the three subjects discussed a plan to take a bus from Ho Chi Minh City to the central provinces to commit theft. The locations they targeted were parish churches, temples, and pagodas.

Since early March 2019, three subjects have been riding motorbikes and taking buses from Ho Chi Minh City to Ninh Thuan. From Ninh Thuan, they used motorbikes to travel through the provinces and stopped at churches, temples, and pagodas to commit their crimes.

With just a long iron bar wrapped in double-sided tape and put in the donation box, within 15 - 20 minutes, they took a considerable amount of money from churches, temples, and pagodas in the provinces of Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An...

In Nghe An, in addition to the theft at Yen Hoa Parish Church, they committed a theft at Ke Gai Parish (Hung Nguyen).

Currently, the police have cleared up 8 theft cases with a total amount of over 30 million VND and are continuing to investigate and expand the case, hunting for the remaining suspects.
