Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that American companies maintain a high level of investment in the Russian market. In addition, American businesses are considering investing not only in the traditional regions of western and central Russia.
"American businesses are interested in developing business in the Far East. Potential areas for joint projects include: natural gas production (in Yamal and Sakhalin), food processing, pulp production, seafood industry and tourism," Ambassador Antonov said.
Bilateral trade between Russia and the United States is growing steadily. In 2018, the turnover increased by 13% (27.5 billion USD) compared to the same period in 2017 (24 billion USD). In the first 6 months of 2019, trade turnover between Russia and the United States reached 13.8 billion USD and American businesses still maintain their interest in the Russian market, despite economic sanctions.
According to the ambassador, although US policy is increasingly tightening, "US businesses show their view that they still maintain investment in the Russian market as a potential and profitable market", and they are always ready and actively participate in multilateral economic events in Russia such as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) or the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).
In addition to investment flows in economic sectors, Russia has also become an attractive tourist destination for American tourists. The 2018 FIFA World Cup is a vivid example of this, when the number of American tourists coming to Russia to watch classic football matches is second only to China.
