The letter reads as follows:
“Family far away miss you!
Because I am lying in bed writing, my handwriting is a bit bad. First of all, thank you for sending me a letter. Tonight the soldiers let us write letters. It was a bit difficult to sleep the first day, but now we are used to it. It was a bit hot when I first slept, but I don't understand why it was so cold at night?
The strap on my watch that Mom just bought is broken. The meal was delicious but it was definitely not as good as being home. I don't know how many times I cried because I missed my family. The first day I took a digestive enzyme and my stomachache was better!
The squad leader is very funny, Mom. The whole family must be very healthy. Well, I have to wish the whole family good health and not worry about me.
Oh, and have you watched Stream tonight? I just want to tell my family, “I love you all so much!”

The author of the letter is a 5th grade student currently living in Vinh City and is a student of the 2017 summer military course organized by Nghe An Provincial Youth Union.
Pham Anh Tuan, Tu's older brother, said that Tu is the youngest in the family, so he is always pampered by his parents and siblings. The idea of Tu participating in the military semester was Tu's mother's, with the thought of helping her son practice independence and discipline as well as having a fun, rewarding and healthy summer with friends of the same age.

Before receiving the letter from the little "soldier", his mother also wrote a very emotional letter, advising her son to try to practice, get along with his friends and together "complete the assigned tasks well".
Many people commented on Anh Tuan's (Tu's brother) Facebook page, expressing their interest in the letter, which seemed very "adult" but was also innocent and lovely.
