Started to manufacture fake Ajinomoto MSG

After a period of setting up a special investigation project, at about 5:30 a.m. on December 26, the working group of the Economic and Commercial Team, Department of Investigation of Economic Crimes and Corruption, Hanoi City Police discovered Nguyen Thi Nu (born in 1963), residing at Group 6, Phuc Loi Ward.transporting suspicious goods.

Upon inspection, the authorities discovered that the vehicle transported by Nguyen Thi Nu contained 1 sack containing 30 MSG packets bearing the “Ajinomoto” brand, 454g/packet. All of the goods had no invoices or documents proving their origin. When invited to work, the representative of Ajinomoto Company confirmed that the MSG packets bearing the “Ajinomoto” brand were not manufactured by the company.

At the police station, Ms. Nu initially admitted that the MSG was produced at home and then directly sold at several grocery stores in Long Bien district. The Investigation Police Department issued an emergency search warrant for Nguyen Thi Nu's house, confiscating 1,433 packages of MSG labeled "Ajinomoto" of various types; 1,313 plastic packages of MSG labeled "Ajinomoto"; 125 kg of raw MSG; 1 heat sealing bag sealing machine and a scale.

Nguyen Thi Nu started producing counterfeit products of the “Ajinomoto” and “Miwon” brands from around August 2015. The production method was to buy unbranded MSG, plastic packaging of various “Ajinomoto” and “Miwon” brands made in China, buy a heat sealing machine to seal the bag, then pack the MSG into plastic bags according to the weight written on the packaging and use the heat sealing machine to seal the bag.

The case is being further investigated by the Investigation Police.
