Arrest of subject transporting individual suspected to be fire leopard

On March 27, 2019, while patrolling, the Traffic Police Team of Ky Son District Police discovered and caught Nguyen Huu Phong (born in 1988, residing in Son Thanh hamlet, Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop district) in the act of transporting an individual animal (suspected to be a leopard).
The Fire Leopard belongs to group IB, listed as a rare and endangered species, at risk of extinction, and in need of priority protection.
Phong said he bought the fish for 7 million VND from a resident in Huoi Tu commune, Ky Son district. Phong was transporting it home to cook into a paste.
Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Ky Son District is temporarily detaining the subject and conducting an appraisal of the above individual for handling according to regulations.
