Caught a giant catfish worth 10 million VND on Lam River

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 21, a fisherman on Lam River in Tuong Duong district caught a 1.6 m long, 14 kg fish and sold it to a restaurant in Con Cuong for more than 10 million VND.

On the afternoon of September 21, Mr. Bui Van Tam, owner of Tam Lan restaurant and hotel in block 5 of Con Cuong town, bought a giant eel fish measuring 1.6 meters long and weighing 14 kg. Mr. Tam said that the fish was caught by a fisherman on the Lam River in Tuong Duong district. His family bought this giant eel fish for more than 10 million VND.

According to Mr. Tam, in early September, his restaurant bought a larger eel, weighing nearly 20 kg, from a fisherman in Tuong Duong. It is very rare to buy such a large eel - Mr. Tam added.

The eel fish has very fragrant, tough meat and few bones, often living in streams, or deep water in rivers and lakes. Because of its value, this fish is often hunted, leading to depletion. Currently, according to the market price, the eel fish is about 800 thousand to more than 1 million VND/kg, depending on the size of the fish.

Due to the impact of recent heavy rains, the water level of Lam River has risen. This is also an opportunity for fishermen to catch many types of specialty fish such as catfish, loach and especially scad.
