Caught a 'giant' black carp weighing 45 kg

After hearing that fishermen at Thac Ba Lake (Yen Bai) used a net to catch a "giant" black carp weighing up to 42 kg, the owner of a restaurant in Hanoi contacted to buy the carp to serve customers.

Mr. Hoang Nghia - manager at a restaurant in Hanoi who just bought the above "giant" black carp - said that on the evening of August 20, a group of fishermen in Thac Ba town, Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province were using nets to fish in Thac Ba lake when they suddenly discovered a "giant" black carp caught in the net.

Upon hearing the news, the restaurant owner asked an acquaintance to buy it for him. The fish weighed 42kg and was 1.45m long.

"In the early morning of August 21, we put the fish in a preservation device and brought it back to Hanoi safely. This is truly one of the very large black carp, one of the giant fish that our restaurant has ever bought. Normally, large black carp weigh about 10-20kg, and a fish over 40kg like this is very rare" - the restaurant manager said.

According to market research, the price of black carp ranges from 180,000 - 250,000 VND/kg for 3-7kg/fish, 8-10kg/fish costs 500,000 VND/kg, over 10kg/fish costs 600,000 - 1,000,000 VND/kg... The restaurant owner said that the bigger the black carp, the rarer it is, so the price of "giant" fish is very expensive.
